Animated Explainer Videos

Here's the endshot frame from the 3Deal explainer video, with Call to Action and contacts.

The conundrum

For a while in 2013 we had a conundrum: namely, how do we explain all our services in a nice simple engaging way? Although I’m not shy in front of a camera, at the time I didn’t want to front an explainer video on my website’s homepage.

In the end I shortlisted two solutions. The first way would have been a series of client testimonials on video saying nice things about my services, but it takes a while to get these and they don’t necessarily explain the detail of our services. It will happen eventually!

An animated solution

So my chosen solution was an animated video using GoAnimate. It was great fun to make! There is a serious side of course as with all business communications but that doesn’t mean it has to be dry and dreary. It was important to understand our objectives for the finished animation before we started. Who would watch and what did we want them to do? We wrote the script with this in mind – it is an explainer video after all – and then decided on the scenarios and characters.

In real life Mark isn't this thin, nor has quite as much hair. He's always talking though...

One of the advantages of animation like this is the almost total creative control you get. GoAnimate supply all sorts of tools you can use or customise quite easily to choose almost every aspect of the film: backgrounds, characters movements and attributes, even the kind of coffee cup they’re holding.

In the end we created a 3-minute overall explainer for our website’s homepage, but one we could split and partially re-use for Verbalive, Digitalive and Visualive [the brand names of 3 of our services back in 2013]. We created a totally separate animated explainer for our great Socialive service [the brand name for the fourth services back then].

We hope you like watching the films as much as we enjoyed making them. More importantly, we hope you understand the story-boarding, scripting, voiceover recording and video creation that I did to create these little videos. If you have any questions, just get in touch. You can watch them on my Video/Audio page.
