This category covers an archaic and obsolete type of ticket called a platform ticket. It didn’t permit travel any farther than the station platform, perhaps useful if you were waiting to say goodbye to someone as they departed on a train. Now few stations issue these, particularly because many have no staff any more or there are no rules restricting access to the platforms. This category contains many from around England, Wales and Scotland, together with a selection from the London Underground system from the 1980s. I still find it incredible that anyone would have bought a platform ticket at a deep-level tube station like Piccadilly Circus and not travelled with it.

My aim is to showcase this type of ephemera, but also to stimulate your own memory and travel stories. Please note I don’t sell any tickets… even though I’ve bought many.
